Isaiah 41

A Review of Isaiah 41

Isaiah 41:1

“Keep silent before Me, O islands” is the LORD commanding all to acknowledge Him.  Unfortunately this will not happen until it is too late.  “…and let the people renew their strength” is the LORD speaking of His elect.  “…let them come near; then let them speak” is the LORD commanding all the islands or the continents, all the people of the world, to hear His elect as He has given them what He desires the world to know.  “…let us come near together to judgment” is the LORD gathering all who are His to Himself in preparation for Judgment Day: Ezekiel 34:11-12.

Isaiah 41:2

The LORD is the God and the creator of all things therefore He determines who rules His world.  I the sight of the world they view their political leaders and those with monetary might as rulers; however the LORD has given true dominion to His elect.  As we see from this verse God has made His to rule over kings.  The verse continues to say “He gave them as dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow”.  This is the LORD and the power of His word.  As the elect take the word to the world they hear, take heed and are saved; or they hear, are offended and therefore become dust before the sword: Psalm 110:2.

Isaiah 41:3-4

“He persuaded them and passed safely” is the LORD speaking of His elect as we must pursue all with the word of God.  All whom we can reach are to hear the true word of God; however we are not to force the truth on anyone: Mark 6:11.  The LORD guarantees, if we have faith, that we will all pass safely: Jeremiah 1:16-19.  Reading Galatians 2:16 we see the faith of the Bible must be given by God; therefore the LORD already knows all who are His and we should never be dismayed.  In verse 4 we see the LORD declaring His preeminence as He states “I am He”.

Isaiah 41:5-7

The LORD is telling us in verse 5 of the dread He manifest in the world of the lost.  He says “the isles saw it, and feared”.  Our Lord God goes on speaking in verse 6 of the lost as they attempt to come together against Him; which is to say against all of His in this world.  In verse 7 the LORD is telling us of all their attempts to manufacture a god – material or intellectual – of their own design: Isaiah 44:18-20.

Isaiah 41:8-11

In verse 8 the LORD is clearly directing the verses that follow to “the seed of Abraham” His friend; the elect of God.  In verse 9 the LORD calls all who are His to Himself.  In verse 10 the LORD more fervently expressed the sentiments of Jeremiah 1:19.  In verse 11 He tells of the end for all who strive with His as we go forth doing His will.

Isaiah 41:12

The LORD will handle all those who see fit to plague His elect.  As the time will come when we will “seek them, and shall not find them”.  This does not necessarily mean they have been destroyed at the present time.  It simply means they have been moved or preoccupied and sometimes yes, they have been destroyed: Psalm 63:7-10.

Isaiah 41:13-14

The LORD will guide, support, protect and bless all who are His.  For before God we are all worms and we desperately need His protection.  Jacob and the men of Israel are all the elect of God as He is their redeemer, “the Holy One of Israel”: Psalm 19:14.

Isaiah 41:15

The threshing instrument which the LORD has made for His is the word of God.  “…thou shalt thresh the mountains and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff”.  This is the activity of all who are elect of God.  The mountains and hills in this verse refer to the lost and the elect will beat them small and make them as chaff with the word of God.  The truth of the word will only be accepted by those who are elect of God while it will be misunderstood and disregarded by others: 1 Corinthians 1:22-24.

Isaiah 41:16

All who are not elect of God will refuse the truth of the gospel. However, because they refuse it, that will not disannul it.  They are simply being marked for the destruction to come.  Therefore they are being scattered and lost in the whirlwind while the elect of God will rejoice before our God who does everything perfectly: 2 Corinthians 4:1-6.

Isaiah 41:17

The Israel of God are all His elect.  We are always thirsty for the word of God and in this verse we see our Lord God will never forsake us: Hebrews 13:5.

Isaiah 41:18

“I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys.” The valleys represent the hearts of all the elect; for we are all lowly in spirit.  The rivers in high places represent the water of the gospel which the LORD is opening in heaven and flowing to the fountains in the midst of the valleys.  The second portion of this verse is almost a reiteration of the first.  It states the LORD will flood this entire world, the wilderness, with the pool of water that is His gospel: Mark 13:10.

Isaiah 41:19-20

In verse 19 we see the LORD speaking of His elect as trees He will plant in the wilderness and in the desert.  We can know these are the elect of God because in verse 20 the LORD says this is done “that they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together”.  As we read the Bible we see time and time again our Lord God will only give understanding to His elect: Proverbs 2:6-7.

Isaiah 41:21-29

In verse 21 all who are elect of God are represented here as Jacob and the LORD is our King.  In verses 22 thru 29 the LORD is speaking to the lost.  We see in verses 22 and 23 the LORD is taunting the lost.

In verse 24 the LORD ends the taunt as He blatantly says to the lost “ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you”.  This is the LORD speaking to all the churches and the world as all those who are not in the church will ultimately come down on one side of the fence or the other.  There is no point in-between. Everyone is either elect of God or lost to God and whether the lost are church members or not they are still lost.  However those who do not attend the churches but are lost can cry out to God and, if it’s done in sincerity, God will have mercy on them: 1 Kings 21:25-29.

In verse 25 the LORD says “I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come”.  Looking at this portion of the verse in light of verses like Isaiah 14:12-13 and Jeremiah 1:13-16 we see Satan is associated with the north.  “…from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name.” Since the solar system will continue as it has gone on from the beginning of time this portion of the verse can’t be referring to the sun in the sky.  I believe “the sun” here is referring to the LORD just as in Psalm 19:4.  Also, Satan is referred to as the “son of the morning” in Isaiah 14:12, therefore, in light of this I believe this clause says from the rising of the LORD, to the judgment of this world, Satan shall call upon the name of the LORD.  We know from many verses in the Bible that Satan and all his demons are but servants of All Mighty God.  Consequently before Satan can punish anyone he must call upon the LORD that our Lord God will allow him to do as He desires done: Job 1:7-12“…and he shall come upon princes as morter and as the potter treadeht clay.” Once the LORD gives Satan the parameters of punishment for an individual he will proceed to torment that individual just as he did Job.  I believe it is from the book of Job that we get a glimpse of Satan’s role, as well as several other significant issues, in the judgment plan of the LORD.

In verse 26 the LORD makes it clear that He is the Alpha and the Omega as “there is none” besides Him as He is the one who is three.  In verse 27 the LORD is speaking in His duality as He tells of giving Himself to His elect.  “The first shall say to Zion” is our Lord God referring to Himself as “the first”.  He continues with “…I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good tidings”.  In this portion of the verse the LORD is referring to Himself in the first person singular as “I” and in the third person singular as “one that bringeth”.

In verse 28 the LORD speaks to the empty state of a man’s mind and ultimately his life without God.  A man knows nothing and consequently he can do nothing of any eternal value without the blessing of the wisdom of God.  Therefore, as we see in verse 29, man without the wisdom of God is lost.  His life will be guided by a slew of vain pursuits ultimately ending leaving that man dead in soul and body.
